How do you get to Carnegie hall?

Trying to practice four or five hours a day on music averaging two ours of electric guitar in open c tuning and a hour of live songs in concert tuning and a hour of dedicated vocal practice.

Still not confident with my singing since I had all my teeth ripped out a couple of years ago… but even more than my song writing that is most often what I am complimented on.

It’s a little weird being told I have a great voice mainly because I have never been confident with my singing.  I am trying to get my voice back in shape but dang if it is not difficult enunciating if you don’t wear your false teeth daily then you lose your ability to vocalize in a in tune sort of way. I always practice singing but not always with my dentures. Mainly typing this to shame myself into trying to wear them daily to get the phrasing down.

I did pretty good at the last open mic night on a misfits cover of skulls. That one seemed to land ok with everyone including me. But my new verses for my evening shadow in the sun. Are fairly unnerving to sing to the crow specifically the lines…

“My nickname was sling blade,

At the last place I worked.

On the day I quit,

I made damn sure it hurt.”

Which is all true the kitchen manager started calling me sling blade and I was harassed and bullied until I snapped and started swinging back.

I feel uncomfortable bringing up that period of my life… it was a very rough time and the time my psychosis was triggered.

Dark times but I will say this the song has evolved from an original title to a section of a book I worked on for almost twenty years. Or, at least they became relatabel to the verses I wrote earlier in the year…. the verses except the one I just shared I wrote in one go with a different chorus.

If I called my evening shadow in the sun anything else it would be the porcupines delema. It was written for a very cute girl who asked if I was going to serenade her with my music. I then wrote (As I do) a I suck routine that was designed to push anyone one who was interested away.

For example the original chorus was its my intention to fall in love.

Vs what I have now

“Oh lord what have i done

Chasing my evening shadow in the sun.

Oh lord what have I become

Chasing my evening shadow in the sun.”

The other verses are a commentary on the very behavior of the of what I was writing about.

“Your one hell of a girl

We all need a partner in crime

Into this life we were hurled

I need light because i am blind.”

That is verse one.

Verse two was the first lyric I shared and three and four are….

“With my heart on a hook

The hurt within is bait

A nibble is all they took

Paim has become my faith

Point of contact is the joy

I’ll be gone without a trace

One more bite ill be destroyed

Pain has become my faith.”

Any ways that is my attempt at explaining my songwriting process I used on one single song.

The music change four time in three tuning only the lyrics and basic melody stayed the same. Tempos change and headaches remain.
