Mason Andrew Freak: more of his fictional bio!
Born in a decade renown for its music and raised in one that was… not so much? He met pink Alice at the pilot light in Knoxville his home town she would become the bassist for his solo project after his high school band the Boxing knockouts (described in a local paper as the beastie boys meets Scratch Acid) they were hated being seen as more a prank on themselves then an actual band.
Then he released a series of anti folk gangster rap tunes under the name m1a1. They too did not do so well but the drummer from his former band a three foot tall blue skeleton that hangs on the back of his bedroom door (and he refers to as his inner child) named jacks muholland told him he should play some of his more personal grunge influenced stuff like the records he grew up listening too. So after some speculation he decided to put off having a johnny cash style variety show until he made some good tunes.
He started his solo project Mason Andrew Freak with Pink Alice (the bass player) and jacks muholland (the drummer). As mentioned before Jack muholland is three foot tall blue skeleton that hangs behind Drew’s bedroom door. While not mentioned till now pink Alice is a red haired cartoon character who is in love with fellow local musician Brad of criswel collective.
After brad got a restraining order against her for yelling at the charming folk band midtown dickens pink Alice learned not every show is a rave audience engagement and she broke down crying on the pavement deciding that she would not be a pop star anymore but instead play support on her friend Drew’s new project.
The forth member of the band is Drew’s Ibanez rgd nicknamed the rainbow thief (named after the worst jodorowsky movie) it is so far above his ability’s as a guitars that he attributes all the guitar part to it. Proclaiming the thing is haunted by the rockstar that never got to play it.
There first record was going to be under the band name sewn song thorns with the album being called Heavy. Groovy. Nasty. (The best description jacks could come up with to describe the sound). One critic described the album as “this is something that fills me with so much hope and sadness at the same time.” And we will leave it at that.
Two years were between that and the next long player called: lazy songs about being cool mofos. described by one critic as “some of the best songs and some of the biggest duds.”
Three years would pass before the release a dream of love as suffering. Considered the closest they have come to an above average release the song sugar cube baby blew up and went viral. One critic described it as “an idiot savant avatar channeling some of the Kurt cobain’s unreleased fourth album.”
They have since retreated from the limelight tired of poor reviews and to much wine and women. Drew got fat and became a secluded in mansion he dubbed Grim-Metal-Bedlam after Jacks knocked out all his teeth in a fit of rage. He didn’t like his dentures at first so they released an album of material where he sings slurred lyrics that were nearly incomprehensible without any teeth. And over the last year he has been in therapy trying to crawling from nes an Sega genesis so he can get back to releasing music.
There latest release judgment day (one hell of a party) was written to pink Alice to try to get her to return to the band. Drew played bass on this track… though he played it more like a rhythm guitar like one of his heroes lemmy of Motörhead.
Who knows what waits for one of the most popular and strange bands of the last fifteen years on a self professed mission to ply the nails from the coffin of rock n roll.
